Why don't I see ambient temperature before cooking?

This is normal.

Your Stick's ambient sensor only starts showing a reading once it's in a stable cooking environment. Before the cook gets going, the temperature along the Stick is still settling — too even, or fluctuating — so the app holds off rather than show an unreliable number.

Once your cook is underway and the Stick detects steady heat, the ambient temperature appears on its own.
