# Why Don’t I See Ambient Temperature Before Cooking Starts?

This is normal behavior.

\
The ambient temperature only appears once the Stick recognizes that it’s in a stable cooking environment. Before your cook starts, the temperature around the probe can fluctuate or be too similar across the Stick, which prevents accurate readings.

Once the cook begins and the Stick detects consistent heat, the ambient temperature will appear automatically in the app.
