# How your MeatStick works

New to wireless thermometers? Here's the whole idea in a minute.

## Truly wireless — no cords at all

A traditional probe has a wire running from the meat to a box outside the cooker. The MeatStick doesn't. The whole Stick goes **inside** the meat, the lid comes down, and it sends temperature to your phone over Bluetooth — nothing trailing out, nothing to catch in the lid.

## The Stick does the sensing

There are **multiple sensors along the length of the Stick**, so it reads the temperature at several points and shows you the **coldest** one — the part that finishes last. That's how you avoid the "looked done on the outside, raw in the middle" surprise.

The end you grip — the ceramic handle — is the only part that stays outside the meat. It's built to take direct cooker heat, while the steel section sits *inside* the meat where it stays cool. There are **no buttons** to fuss with: the Stick wakes up when you lift it off its charger, and powers itself down when you set it back or after it's been idle a while.

## Meat temperature *and* cooker temperature

Two things matter on a cook: how hot the **meat** is, and how hot your **cooker** is around it.

* A **V Prime Stick** reads both — meat temperature *and* the surrounding cook environment — from the one Stick.
* A **V Core Stick** focuses on meat temperature. For cooker (ambient) temperature on a Core setup, the **V Forge**'s Wired Ambient Probe clips right at the grate. ([Which set do I have?](/which-meatstick-do-i-have))

## Your phone — and watching from anywhere

The Stick talks to your phone over Bluetooth, which is great when you're nearby. To go further, most sets include a **base or hub** that does two jobs: it boosts the Bluetooth range, and it connects to your home **WiFi** so the cook streams to the cloud — meaning you can check it from the couch, the store, or bed. (A V Core Set is phone-direct, so keep your phone near the cooker — or step up to a set with a base.) See [Monitoring your cook over WiFi](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/wifi-cloud-monitoring).

## Built for real heat

The ceramic handle shrugs off the kind of heat a grill or smoker throws at it, so you can cook over open flame, in a screaming-hot oven, or low-and-slow for hours. And the Stick itself is dishwasher safe — rinse it and you're done.

## So, a cook in three steps

1. **Stick it in** — into the thickest part of the meat. ([How to insert it](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/inserting-the-stick))
2. **Set your target** — pick what you're cooking and how done you want it; the app fills in the temperature. ([Setting up a cook](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/setting-up-a-cook))
3. **Relax** — the app alerts you as it gets close and when it's ready. ([Alerts and resting](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/alerts-and-resting))

That's it. Pick your set on the [home page](/) for setup specific to what you have.

# Which MeatStick do I have?

Not sure which one you've got? Start here — it points you to the right setup guide.

## Is it a V Series?

The current generation is the **V Series**. Tell-tale signs: a ceramic handle (dark charcoal *or* smooth blue-gray), a USB-C base or charger, and pairing through the MeatStick App with no separate WiFi Bridge box.

| Your set has… | You have a… | Set it up |
| ------------------------------------------------------------ | --------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| One Stick + a single-Stick base with a button (no screen) | **V Prime Set** | [Set up your V Prime](/v-prime-set/v-prime/set-up) |
| One Stick + a slim stackable charger (no screen, no buttons) | **V Core Set** | [Set up your V Core](/v-core-set/v-core/set-up) |
| Two Sticks + a base with an **LCD screen** | **V Duo Set** | [Set up your V Duo](/v-duo-set/v-duo/set-up) |
| A Stick + a hub **plus a separate wired probe on a cable** | **V Forge Set** | [Set up your V Forge](/v-forge-set/v-forge/set-up) |

Telling the two V Series Sticks apart: the **V Prime Stick** has a dark, faceted charcoal handle; the **V Core Stick** has a smooth blue-gray handle. The V Prime also reads cook-environment (ambient) temperature on its own; the V Core focuses on internal temperature.

## Is it a legacy MeatStick?

If your thermometer came with a separate **WiFi Bridge** box, uses replaceable batteries in the charger, or is a few years old, it's a legacy product. They're still supported in the app — head to the section that matches yours:

* **MeatStick 4 / Chef** (the generation before V Series) → [MeatStick 4 and Chef](/legacy-products/legacy/meatstick-4-and-chef)
* **MeatStick / Mini** (the original wireless Sticks) → [MeatStick and Mini](/legacy-products/legacy/meatstick-and-mini)
* **The MeatStick (2018)** (the first-generation Stick) → [The MeatStick 2018](/legacy-products/legacy/meatstick-2018)
* **WiFi Bridge** (the add-on box that gave older Sticks cloud range) → [WiFi Bridge](/legacy-products/legacy/wifi-bridge)

## How V Prime measures both temperatures from one Stick

The V Prime Stick combines 5 internal-temperature sensors plus a built-in ambient sensor in a single Stick. The internal sensors give you meat temperature; the ambient sensor reads the cook environment around the Stick. Both measurements stream to the MeatStick App through the Smart Base.

For most weeknight cooks, sears, oven roasts, and sous vide, this one-piece setup is the simplest path — meat temperature *and* cook environment, no extra hardware to clip at the grate.

For long smoker cooks where pit-temperature accuracy is critical, you'd want the [V Forge Set](/v-forge-set/v-forge) instead — its separate Wired Ambient Probe at grate level isn't affected by the cold meat the Stick is sitting in.

# Set it up

Your V Prime Set has two pieces: the **V Prime Stick** and the **V Smart Base**. First-time setup takes about 15 minutes — most of that is the first charge.

## 1. Charge the Smart Base

Plug the Smart Base into a power source with the included USB-C cable and let it charge for at least 1 hour before first use. It has its own battery, so it can stay on the counter or stick to your grill during the cook without being tethered to the wall.

## 2. Charge the Stick

Place the Stick on the Smart Base. The contacts seat magnetically and it starts charging on its own — leave it about an hour before first use.

> **Brand-new Stick looks dead? That's normal.** New Sticks ship in a low-voltage protection state. Give it \~10 seconds on the powered base and it'll wake up when you lift it off.

## 3. Download and open the MeatStick App

Get the MeatStick App for iOS or Android, then sign in or create an account. See [Where do I download the App](/the-meatstick-app/app/where-do-i-download-the-app).

## 4. Activate the Stick and set your cook

Lift the Stick off the base to activate it. In the app, select your Stick, choose your cut, and set your target temperature.

## 5. Insert the Stick

Push the Stick into the thickest part of the meat, up to the line on the steel shaft. Avoid fat and bone.

## 6. Relax and monitor

Temperature streams to your phone in real time, and the app alerts you when the meat hits your target. Keep the Smart Base within about 6 feet of the Stick for a solid signal. To watch your cook from anywhere, connect the Smart Base to WiFi once — see [Monitoring your cook over WiFi](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/wifi-cloud-monitoring).

## 7. Rest, then clean

Let the meat rest before removing the Stick — it may be hot. Once it cools, [clean it](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/cleaning-your-stick) and set it back on the base when dry.

## Turning your Stick off

You don't have to — the V Prime Stick powers down on its own two ways:

1. After 30 minutes of inactivity.
2. The moment you place it on the Smart Base.

So you can focus on the cook without worrying about switching it off.

# Your V Smart Base

The V Smart Base is the base that comes with the **V Prime Set**. It charges your Stick, extends Bluetooth range, and bridges your cook to WiFi so you can watch it from anywhere. This page covers everything specific to the Smart Base — power, charging, lights, sounds, and placement.

## Turning it on

There are a few ways to wake the Smart Base:

1. Press and hold the button for 1 second, then release.
2. Remove the Stick from the base.
3. Plug the base in to charge.

## Charging the base

* **Plug it in** with the included USB-C cable. Make sure the connection is secure and the outlet is live.
* The LED **flashes green** while the base is charging, and turns **solid green** once it's full.
* A full base runs for **about 14 hours** on its built-in battery — no wall outlet needed during the cook.
* The LED cycles through whatever the base is doing — so if it's charging *and* on WiFi, you'll see blue, then green.

> The Smart Base is **not** dishwasher safe. Wipe it with a damp cloth only. (Your Stick *is* dishwasher safe — the base is not.)

## What the lights mean

| LED color | What it means |
| --------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| Blue | Connected to WiFi |
| White | Working as an Xtender™ (extending Bluetooth range) |
| Green | Charging the battery (Stick or base) |
| Red | Low battery / warning |

A couple of button behaviors to know:

* **Hold the button 5+ seconds, then release** → puts the base in **pairing mode** (lets the app connect to change settings or run firmware updates). LED shows a **fast white/blue flash**.
* **Mechanical reset button** → hard-reboots the base. A successful reboot cycles **red → green → blue → white**.

## What the sounds mean

| Sound | What it means |
| ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Long beep | A cook was added |
| 3 quick beeps | Your early-warning temperature was reached |
| Continuous beeping | The target temperature was hit |
| 2 beeps every 3 seconds | Ambient temperature is too high or too low for your alert settings |
| 4 beeps every 3 seconds | Ambient and/or internal temps are too high (or about to be) — check on your Stick |
| 2 short beeps every 10 seconds | The base lost connection with the Stick |
| 1 short beep every 10 seconds | The Stick's battery is low |

To stop the sound, just press the button.

## Placing it for the best signal

The Smart Base has a powerful antenna located **beneath the MeatStick logo**, so where you put it matters:

* **Keep the base within about 6 feet of your Stick — closer is better.** When the Stick is inside a smoker, grill, or oven, the metal walls weaken the Bluetooth signal, so the rated range on the box is for ideal line-of-sight, not real cooking.
* **Face the base toward your router** or the area where you'll be monitoring.
* **Keep metal objects** (tongs, spatulas, foil) away from the base — they can interfere.

Once the base has a solid signal from the Stick, it streams the data over WiFi, so you can leave the yard from there. The short Stick-to-base distance is what keeps the connection rock-solid. More on this in [Range and connection drops](/troubleshooting/troubleshooting/range-and-connection-drops).

# V Core Set

The **V Core Set** is the simplest way into the V Series and the building block for going multi-Stick. One Stick, one stackable charger — paired straight to your phone over Bluetooth. Everything for your V Core is here.

## What's NOT in the box (and where to find each)

* **A smart base or WiFi hub** — V Core is intentionally Bluetooth-only. If you want WiFi cloud monitoring, you'd step up to the [V Prime Set](/v-prime-set/v-prime/whats-in-the-box), [V Duo Set](/v-duo-set/v-duo/whats-in-the-box), or [V Forge Set](/v-forge-set/v-forge).
* **A wired ambient probe** — V Core doesn't measure cook-environment temperature. If you need that, the [V Prime Set](/v-prime-set/v-prime/whats-in-the-box) has a built-in ambient sensor on the Stick, or the [V Forge Set](/v-forge-set/v-forge) has a dedicated Wired Ambient Probe at grate level.

# Set it up

The MeatStick V Core Set is the simplest, lowest-price way into the V Series ecosystem. One V Series Stick, one stackable charger, three colored ID rings. No WiFi, no smart base — just the Stick paired directly to your phone over Bluetooth.

## What it's for

* **Entry buyers** — first wireless meat thermometer, want V Series accuracy without paying for the WiFi/ambient features they don't need yet
* **Existing V Forge / V Prime / V Duo owners** — adding a second (or third, or fourth) Stick to their rig. Same MeatStick App, same Hub manages every Stick, no duplicate smart hardware to buy

## What's in the box

See

{% content-ref url="/pages/u2z7ftHorZj1vtpmvsBX" %}
[What's in the box](/v-core-set/v-core/whats-in-the-box)
{% endcontent-ref %}

## First-time setup

1. **Plug in the stackable charger** with the included USB-C cable
2. **Place the Stick on the charger** — let it charge for about an hour before first use
3. **Download the MeatStick App** for iOS or Android
4. **Pair the Stick** through the app's "Add device" flow
5. **Assign a color ring** — slip one of the included silicone rings onto the Stick's handle and pick the matching color in the app. (This matters most once you're running more than one Stick.)
6. **Insert the Stick into your meat** up to the line on the steel shaft, set your cook in the app, you're done

## Keep your phone close — the V Core Set is phone-direct

The V Core Set doesn't ship with a Smart Base or WiFi Hub. Your phone is the receiver, talking directly to the Stick over Bluetooth. **Keep your phone within about 6 feet of your Stick during a cook — closer is better.**

When your Stick is enclosed inside a grill, oven, smoker, or sous vide bath, the cooking environment weakens the Bluetooth signal. Sealed smoker walls, water (sous vide), and metal vessels (sous vide in a metal pot, deep frying) make it worse. Without a Base or Hub to extend the signal, you don't have a WiFi fallback — so the phone needs to stay near the cooker.

If you want to leave the yard or monitor from another room, you'd step up to one of the V Series Sets with a built-in WiFi receiver — [V Prime](/v-prime-set/v-prime/whats-in-the-box), [V Duo](/v-duo-set/v-duo/whats-in-the-box), or [V Forge](/v-forge-set/v-forge).

> **First-charge note:** New Sticks ship in a low-voltage protection state. Lifting a brand-new Stick off the charger before its first charge will look like nothing is happening — that's normal. After \~10 seconds on a powered charger, the protection state clears.

## When V Core isn't enough

V Core is built for cooks where you don't need ambient temperature monitoring. If your cooks need pit/oven temperature too:

* **Doing long smoker cooks where pit-temp accuracy matters?** → [V Forge Set](/v-forge-set/v-forge) (wired ambient probe at grate)
* **Want at-a-glance temp on a built-in display?** → [V Duo Set](/v-duo-set/v-duo/whats-in-the-box) (LCD on the base, two Sticks)

# Your V Charge Stack

The V Charge Stack is the slim USB-C-powered stackable charger that ships with every V Core Set. It charges your Stick — no Bluetooth, no WiFi, no display. The clever bit is the stacking.

## How stacking works

Each stackable charger has connectors on its short ends that lock into the next one. Add a second V Core Set to your kitchen, and the two chargers click together end-to-end in a row. One USB-C cable plugged into the charger at the end of the chain powers every charger in the row.

So if you're running three Sticks during a multi-protein cook, the three chargers sit side-by-side on the counter as a thin strip — one cable feeding all of them.

## Charging the Stick

1. Plug the USB-C cable into the charger (or into the first charger in your chain)
2. Place the Stick into the cradle, contacts down — they seat magnetically into the right position
3. The LED on the charger turns on while charging

### About the LED

The charger's LED turns **on** while actively charging and turns **off** somewhere in the **75–90% charge** range. **LED-off does not mean fully charged** — a typical full charge takes about 60 minutes total, and the LED switches off well before the last 10–15% completes.

If you remove the Stick the moment the LED switches off, the MeatStick App may show the battery at 80–90% — that's the actual state-of-charge, not a defect. Leave the Stick on the charger for the full \~60 minutes for a true 100% charge.

## Powered vs unpowered

The stackable charger doesn't have its own battery — it needs to be plugged in to work. When unplugged, it's just an inert cradle.

## Compatibility

The stackable charger is designed for the V Core Stick. The V Prime Stick fits physically as well (same Stick dimensions), but the V Prime Set normally ships with its own Smart Base that adds WiFi and Bluetooth range extension on top of charging.

# V Duo Set

The **V Duo Set** runs two Sticks at once and shows their temperatures right on the base's LCD screen — phone-optional cooking, great for multi-protein cooks and gifting. Everything for your V Duo is here.

## Why one Stick has ambient and the other doesn't

When you're running two Sticks on the same cook (a brisket and ribs on the same smoker, two steaks at different doneness, mains and sides in the oven), you only need **one** ambient temperature reading — the cook environment is the same for both proteins. So the V Duo Set pairs one ambient-equipped Stick (the V Prime Stick) with one non-ambient Stick (the V Core Stick) instead of duplicating the ambient sensor unnecessarily.

Both Sticks have the same internal-temperature accuracy and sensor count — the only difference is the ambient sensor on the V Prime Stick.

## The on-base LCD display

The V Duo Base is the only V Series base with a built-in screen — temperatures visible at a glance from across the patio, no need to keep your phone with you at the grill. The phone is still there for cloud monitoring when you want it; you just don't need it for at-the-grill checks.

# Set it up

Your V Duo Set has three pieces: two Sticks — a **V Prime Stick** and a **V Core Stick** — and the **V Duo Smart Base** with its LCD screen. First-time setup takes about 15 minutes.

## 1. Charge the Duo Base

Plug the Duo Base into a power source with the included USB-C cable and let it charge for at least 1 hour before first use. It has its own battery, so it doesn't need to stay plugged in during the cook.

## 2. Charge both Sticks

Place both Sticks into the base's two cradles. They seat magnetically and charge automatically — give them about an hour before first use.

> **Brand-new Sticks look dead? That's normal.** They ship in a low-voltage protection state. About 10 seconds on the powered base clears it, and they wake when you lift them off.

## 3. Download and open the MeatStick App

Get the MeatStick App for iOS or Android and sign in. See [Where do I download the App](/the-meatstick-app/app/where-do-i-download-the-app).

## 4. Pair and assign colors

Activate each Stick by lifting it off the base, then pair both in the app. Assign each one a color so you can tell them apart on the grill and on the LCD.

> One Stick has an ambient sensor (the V Prime Stick) and one doesn't (the V Core Stick). That's by design — when both Sticks are in the same cook, you only need one ambient reading for the shared cook environment.

## 5. Insert the Sticks and start the cook

Push each Stick into the thickest part of its cut, up to the line on the steel shaft. Set each cook in the app — or just watch the temperatures on the base's **LCD screen**, no phone required.

## 6. Monitor your way

Read temps at a glance on the LCD, or check from anywhere over WiFi. Keep the base within about 6 feet of the Sticks for a reliable signal. For cloud setup, see [Monitoring your cook over WiFi](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/wifi-cloud-monitoring).

# Your V Duo Smart Base

The V Duo Smart Base is the base that comes with the **V Duo Set**. It's the only V Series base with a **built-in LCD screen**, and it holds and charges **two Sticks** at once.

## What makes it different

* **LCD display** — your cook temperatures show right on the base, at a glance from across the patio. No need to keep your phone with you at the grill. The phone is still there for cloud monitoring when you want it; you just don't need it for a quick check.
* **Two-Stick cradle** — charges two Sticks side by side, perfect for multi-protein cooks.

## Power and charging

* **USB-C powered** with a built-in rechargeable battery — runs through a long cook without a wall outlet nearby.
* Plug in the included USB-C cable to charge the base; place a Stick in either cradle to charge it automatically.
* **Not dishwasher safe** — wipe with a damp cloth only. (Your Sticks are dishwasher safe; the base is not.)

## The button and the screen

The Duo Base works like the V Smart Base, with one button:

* **Short press** (or lift a Stick off it) — wakes the base.
* **Press and hold about 5 seconds** — pairing mode, for WiFi setup or firmware updates.
* **Press and hold 15–30 seconds** — factory reset.

Where the other V Series bases use **LED colors** to show status, the Duo Base shows it right on the **LCD screen** — a **WiFi icon** and a **Bluetooth icon** tell you how it's connected, alongside your live temperatures, so you can read the cook at a glance without your phone.

> **If it won't restart after a reset:** on some early units, plug the base into USB power and press reset again — it'll boot normally.

## Connectivity

The Duo Base has both **WiFi** and **Bluetooth 5**, so it extends your Stick's Bluetooth range and bridges the cook to the cloud over WiFi. WiFi is **2.4 GHz only**. For cloud setup, see [Monitoring your cook over WiFi](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/wifi-cloud-monitoring).

## Placement

Keep the base within about 6 feet of your Sticks for a reliable signal — closer is better, especially when the Sticks are inside a smoker or oven. Once the base has the signal, it relays the cook over WiFi so you can step away. More in [Range and connection drops](/troubleshooting/troubleshooting/range-and-connection-drops).

# V Forge Set

The **V Forge Set** is built for the low-and-slow — smokers, kamados, pellet grills, overnight BBQ. It pairs a V Series Stick with a **Wired Ambient Probe** that reads pit temperature right at the grate, plus a **WiFi Hub** for cloud monitoring. Everything for your V Forge is here.

## Multi-Stick Forge variants

If you bought a V Forge Set with 2, 3, or 4 Sticks, you also get one or more **V Core Sets** in the box — each one is a separate V Core Stick paired with a stackable charger:

| Set | What's added on top of the standard Forge Set |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| V Forge Set — **2 Sticks** | + 1 V Core Set (Stick + stackable charger) + 3 colored silicone ID rings |
| V Forge Set — **3 Sticks** | + 2 V Core Sets + 6 colored silicone ID rings |
| V Forge Set — **4 Sticks** | + 3 V Core Sets + 9 colored silicone ID rings |

Each additional V Core Set is a complete, self-contained Stick — same Hub manages them all in the MeatStick App.

### About the silicone ID rings

Once you're running more than one Stick on the same cook, the colored slip-on rings (yellow / blue / red) help you tell them apart on the grill. You assign each Stick its color in the MeatStick App during first-time pairing — the in-app reading then matches the ring on the Stick.

# Set it up

Your V Forge Set has three pieces: the **Stick**, the **WiFi Hub**, and the **Wired Ambient Probe**. First-time setup takes about 15 minutes.

## 1. Charge the WiFi Hub first

Plug the included USB-C cable into the Hub and let it charge for at least 1 hour before first use. The Hub has its own rechargeable battery so it can stay on the side table during the cook without being tethered to a wall.

## 2. Charge the Stick

Place the Stick on the WiFi Hub. The contacts on the Stick's base seat into the Hub's cradle and start charging automatically. Leave it for about an hour before first use.

> **Important first-charge note:** New Sticks ship from the factory in a low-voltage protection state. Lifting a brand-new Stick off the charger before its first charge will look like it's dead — that's normal. After \~10 seconds on a powered Hub, the protection state clears and the Stick will wake when you remove it.

## 3. Download and open the MeatStick App

Get the MeatStick App for iOS or Android. Sign in or create an account.

{% content-ref url="/pages/-MgEcvddRfNg36oCI9AD" %}
[Where do I download the App?](/the-meatstick-app/app/where-do-i-download-the-app)
{% endcontent-ref %}

## 4. Pair the WiFi Hub

In the app, tap "Add device" and follow the on-screen pairing flow. The app will find the Hub over Bluetooth and walk you through connecting it to your home WiFi network.

> **WiFi note:** The Hub connects to **2.4 GHz networks only**. If your router runs both 2.4 and 5 GHz on the same name, your phone may need to be on the 2.4 GHz band during pairing.

## 5. Plug in the Wired Ambient Probe

Find the small square port on one short end of the WiFi Hub. Plug the connector from the Wired Ambient Probe into that port. You can leave it plugged in permanently — the Hub powers the probe; no separate battery to manage.

## 6. Position the Hub

Place the Hub somewhere off the cooking surface, on a side table or stuck to the smoker's side panel using the Hub's magnetic back. **Keep the Hub within about 6 feet of your Stick for reliable signal — closer is better.** When your Stick is enclosed inside a smoker, grill, or oven, the metal walls weaken the Bluetooth signal significantly, so the rated range you see on the spec sheet is for ideal line-of-sight conditions, not real cooking. Once the Hub has the signal, it sends cook data over WiFi to your phone — so you can leave the yard after that, but the short Hub-to-Stick distance is what keeps the connection solid.

## 7. Insert the Stick, clip the ambient probe, start the cook

* Insert the Stick into the thickest part of your meat, up to the line on the steel shaft.
* Clip the Wired Ambient Probe at grate level, **6–12 inches from the meat**. Don't let the tip touch the meat or sit directly over open flame.
* In the app, choose your cut and target temperature, then tap "Start Cook."

You're cooking. Check the app from your phone anywhere with internet — the WiFi Hub keeps the data flowing.

# What makes it different

The V Forge Set is the MeatStick V Series setup built for **long smoker cooks and pit-temperature accuracy**. Three things make it different from the V Prime Set or V Duo Set:

### 1. Ambient temperature is measured at the grate, not on the Stick

The V Forge Set ships with a separate **Wired Ambient Probe** that clips at grate level — right where you want to know the pit temperature. The Stick stays in the meat and tracks the cook; the wired ambient probe tracks the cooking environment independently.

On most wireless meat thermometers (including the V Prime Stick), the ambient sensor lives on the Stick itself. When the Stick is buried in cold meat, the meat acts as a heat sink and pulls the ambient reading well below what's actually happening on the pit. For low-and-slow cooks, that's the difference between a 12-hour brisket done right and one that overshoots.

The V Forge architecture separates the two measurements so each one is accurate.

### 2. WiFi is built in

The V Forge Set includes the **WiFi Hub** in the box. The Hub bridges your Stick over Bluetooth and pushes cook data to the MeatStick Cloud over WiFi — so you can check your cook from the grocery store, the office, or in bed during an overnight smoke. No separate gateway purchase, no monthly subscription.

### 3. It scales — same Hub, more Sticks

When you outgrow one probe, the V Forge family adds extra Sticks via V Core Sets (the 2-, 3-, and 4-Stick Forge Sets). The WiFi Hub manages multiple probes simultaneously. You never re-buy the Hub or the wired ambient probe — you just add Sticks and their stackable chargers.

***

**Best for:** offset smokers, kamado, pellet grills, long cooks (8+ hours), multi-protein cooks, and anyone who's been burned by inaccurate pit-temperature readings on a wireless thermometer.

**Not the right fit:** quick weeknight grilling and sears where pit-temperature accuracy doesn't matter much. For those cooks, the simpler [V Prime Set](/buying-help-and-warranty/buying-and-warranty/v-forge-vs-v-prime) or [V Core Set](/) is a better match.

# Your V WiFi Hub

The WiFi Hub is the matte-black base station that comes with your V Forge Set. It charges your Stick, extends Bluetooth range, hosts the Wired Ambient Probe, and sends cook data to the MeatStick Cloud over WiFi.

## Power

* **USB-C charging** — the included cable plugs into any standard USB-C power source.
* **Built-in rechargeable battery** — about 14 hours of active use. Plenty for a long cook without a wall outlet nearby.
* **Magnetic back** — sticks to the side of a metal smoker or grill cart for easy mounting.

## Turning it on & the button

The Hub uses one button — the same as the V Smart Base:

* **Short press** (or lift your Stick off it) — wakes the Hub.
* **Press and hold about 5 seconds** — puts it in **pairing mode** (the light fast-flashes white/blue) so the app can set up WiFi or run a firmware update.
* **Press and hold 15–30 seconds** — factory-resets the Hub (clears WiFi and settings).

> Plug the **Wired Ambient Probe** into the Hub's side port to add a grate-level ambient reading to your cook — it's what gives the V Forge Set's Core Stick its pit temperature. See [Using the Wired Ambient Probe](/v-forge-set/v-forge/wired-ambient-probe).

## Connecting to WiFi

The Hub connects to **2.4 GHz networks only** — not 5 GHz. Most home routers broadcast both bands; you may need your phone on the 2.4 GHz band during pairing for the Hub to find the right network.

Pairing flow:

1. Open the MeatStick App and tap "Add device"
2. Follow the on-screen prompt to put the Hub in pairing mode
3. Pick your WiFi network from the list and enter the password
4. The Hub joins WiFi and starts sending data to the cloud

Once paired, the Hub remembers the network — you don't have to re-pair every cook.

## What the LED is telling you

| LED color | What it means |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| Solid blue | Connected to WiFi, cook data syncing to cloud |
| White | Bluetooth-only mode (no WiFi, app still works locally) |
| Green | Charging — either the Hub itself or a Stick on it |
| Red | Low battery or fault — plug in to charge |
| Fast flashing white/blue | Pairing mode |

## What the sounds mean

The Hub uses the same beep patterns as the V Smart Base:

| Sound | What it means |
| ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------ |
| Long beep | A cook was added |
| 3 quick beeps | Your early-warning temperature was reached |
| Continuous beeping | The target temperature was hit |
| 2 beeps every 3 seconds | Ambient temperature is too high or too low |
| 2 short beeps every 10 seconds | The Hub lost connection with the Stick |
| 1 short beep every 10 seconds | The Stick's battery is low |

Press the button to silence it.

## When WiFi goes down

If your home WiFi drops mid-cook, you don't lose the cook. The Hub keeps streaming temperature data over Bluetooth to your phone whenever the phone is within range (\~30 ft). You just lose the remote-monitoring window until WiFi comes back.

## Range

* **Stick to Hub** (Bluetooth 5): **place the Hub within about 6 feet of your Stick for reliable signal — closer is better.** When your Stick is enclosed inside a smoker, grill, oven, or sous vide bath, the cooking environment weakens the Bluetooth signal significantly. Thicker smoker walls, tighter seals, water (sous vide), and metal vessels (sous vide in a metal pot, deep fryer) all compound the effect — for those scenarios, get the Hub as close as the setup allows. Set the Hub on the side panel of the smoker using the magnetic back, or right next to a sous vide bath.
* **Hub to your phone** (WiFi/cloud): unlimited — anywhere with internet. Once the Hub has the signal from the Stick, you can leave the yard.

# Using the Wired Ambient Probe

The Wired Ambient Probe is the thin stainless probe on a 1 m cable that ships with every V Forge Set. It measures the temperature of your cooking environment — the air around your meat — separately from the meat itself.

## What it does

Your V Forge Set's Stick has **5 internal sensors** to track the temperature inside your meat — but no sensor for the air around it. The Wired Ambient Probe fills that gap: clipped at grate level, it reads your **pit/oven temperature** so you can watch the heat your meat is actually cooking in.

Because it sits right at the grate — not buried in cold meat — it tracks true pit temperature and reacts to lid-opens and fire changes faster than an in-meat sensor could.

## Where to clip it

| Where | OK? |
| --------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| At grate level, 6–12 inches from the meat | ✅ ideal |
| Hanging from the grill grate (not touching meat or grate metal) | ✅ |
| Wedged into the grate's mesh, away from direct flame | ✅ |
| Touching the meat | ❌ — you'll measure the meat surface, not the air |
| Directly over open flame | ❌ — flames spike the reading and stress the probe |
| Pressed against a hot metal surface | ❌ — you'll measure the metal, not the air |

A small grate clip is the easiest mounting solution; many BBQ supply shops sell them for a few dollars.

## How to plug it in

Find the small square port on one short end of your WiFi Hub. The connector on the Wired Ambient Probe seats into that port. There's no separate power switch — the Hub powers the probe whenever it's plugged in.

## Seeing it in the app

The grate reading shows up **inside an active cook**, not before one. Once you start a cook, the ambient (cooking-temperature) reading on the cook screen is fed from the Wired Ambient Probe — that's where you watch your pit temp, and it's what the ambient high/low alerts and the cook-time estimate run on. With no cook started, or the probe unplugged, the cook shows internal temps only.

## Temperature range and accuracy

| Range | Accuracy |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| **−4°F to 212°F (−20°C to 100°C)** | ±0.9°F (±0.5°C) — most accurate band |
| 212°F to 392°F (100°C to 200°C) | ±2.7°F (±1.5°C) |
| 392°F to 572°F (200°C to 300°C) | ±4.5°F (±2.5°C) |
| Up to 716°F (380°C) sustained | Probe tolerates this; accuracy widens |

For most BBQ/smoker cooks (225°F–325°F pit temp) the probe runs well within its accurate band.

# Cleaning the Wired Ambient Probe

The Wired Ambient Probe is built to live next to the grate during long cooks, so it picks up smoke residue, grease splatter, and the occasional drip. Cleaning it takes about a minute.

## After every cook

1. **Unplug it from the WiFi Hub** before cleaning. The cable connector is the one part you don't want wet.
2. **Wipe the stainless probe tip** with a damp cloth or a kitchen sponge. Warm soapy water is fine. For baked-on residue, soak just the metal tip for a few minutes — never the cable or the connector.
3. **Wipe down the cable** with a damp cloth. Don't submerge it.
4. **Dry the probe tip thoroughly** before putting it away.

## What to avoid

| Don't | Why |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Run the cable or connector through the dishwasher | The connector is not sealed against pressurized water — it'll fail |
| Soak the full probe in water | Same reason — water can wick into the connector |
| Use steel wool or abrasive scrubbers on the probe tip | The stainless surface is the temperature-sensing surface; scratches dull readings over time |
| Bend the cable sharply or wrap it tight around itself for storage | Repeated sharp bends can fatigue the wires inside |

## Storage

Coil the cable loosely — a circle about the size of a dinner plate is fine. Keep the probe out of direct sun and away from sources of high heat between cooks.

## Replacing the probe

The Wired Ambient Probe is designed to last for years of regular use. If yours ever needs replacing — bent beyond repair, cable damaged, readings drifting after cleaning — [fill out a ticket in the app](https://tms.fyi/help) and our Support Team will help.

# Adding more Sticks

When one Stick isn't enough — multi-protein cooks, holiday spreads, competition rigs — the V Forge family scales by adding **V Core Sets**. Same WiFi Hub, same Wired Ambient Probe, same MeatStick App. You never re-buy the smart hardware.

## How it scales

| Set | Sticks total | What's added on top of the base V Forge Set |
| -------------------------- | -----------: | ------------------------------------------- |
| V Forge Set | 1 | (the base set) |
| V Forge Set — **2 Sticks** | 2 | + 1 V Core Set |
| V Forge Set — **3 Sticks** | 3 | + 2 V Core Sets |
| V Forge Set — **4 Sticks** | 4 | + 3 V Core Sets |

Each additional V Core Set is a complete, self-contained Stick paired with a stackable charger — not just a bare Stick. That means each extra Stick can also be used as a stand-alone V Core thermometer on its own, paired directly to a phone over Bluetooth.

## Adding an extra Stick to an existing V Forge

If you already own a V Forge Set and want to add more Sticks later:

1. Buy a [V Core Set](/) — it ships with its own Stick + stackable charger
2. Open the MeatStick App on the same account
3. Pair the new Stick (the app walks you through it)
4. Optionally assign it a color ring (yellow, blue, or red — three rings ship with every V Core Set)

The new Stick will appear alongside your existing one in the app. The same WiFi Hub manages both — no extra Hub to buy, no extra ambient probe.

## How the chargers stack

Each V Core Set ships with a **stackable charger** — a slim, USB-C-powered cradle. Multiple chargers lock together end-to-end in a row, and one USB-C cable at the end of the chain powers every charger. So if you have a V Forge Set with 3 Sticks, the two extra Core Set chargers click together side-by-side on the counter and share a single cable.

The WiFi Hub doesn't physically connect to the stackable chargers — it's a separate piece. The Hub stays on the side table; the stackable chargers stay on the counter for charging between cooks.

## Color ID rings — telling Sticks apart on the grill

Every V Core Set ships with **three colored silicone rings** (yellow, blue, red). When you're running more than one Stick on the same cook, slip a ring on each Stick's handle and assign it the matching color in the MeatStick App during pairing. The reading you see in the app will match the ring on the Stick — no more guessing which one is in the brisket and which is in the ribs.

| Bundle | Total color rings included |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------: |
| V Forge Set — **2 Sticks** | 3 (one V Core Set) |
| V Forge Set — **3 Sticks** | 6 (two V Core Sets) |
| V Forge Set — **4 Sticks** | 9 (three V Core Sets) |

## Maximum Sticks per Hub

The Forge bundles ship with up to 4 Sticks, but a single WiFi Hub can actually monitor **up to 8 Sticks at once**. So you can keep adding V Core Sets — all the way to 8 Sticks on one Hub — before you'd ever need a second Hub. (Running more than one Hub is supported, just uncommon for home cooks.)

# Registering and naming your Stick

The first time the MeatStick App sees a Stick, it walks you through a quick **Stick registration** so the app knows which Stick is which. This usually happens right after you lift the Stick off its charger near your phone.

## Name your Stick

When a new Stick is detected, the app prompts you to give it a name — something you'll recognize, like "Brisket," "Oven," or "Smoker #1." That name stays with the Stick on your account.

## Choose a color — V Prime & V Core

If you're registering a **V Prime Stick** or a **V Core Stick**, you can also pick its color during registration. Match it to the colored ID ring you've slipped on the Stick's handle, and the app reading will line up with the physical Stick — a lifesaver when you're running more than one. See [Cooking with more than one Stick](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/multi-probe-cooking).

## After it's registered

Once registered, your Stick stays on your **home screen** so it's always one tap away. Each one shows its status at a glance:

| Status | What it means |
| ---------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **On** | Powered on and ready to cook |
| **Off** | Powered down — usually resting on the charger |
| **Disconnected** | Out of range or signal lost — see [Range and connection drops](/troubleshooting/troubleshooting/range-and-connection-drops) |
| **Cook status** | A cook is running — live temperature and progress |

# Using more than one base, or switching bases

Got a second Set, or want the app to work with a different base than the one you set up with? Here's how it works today.

## Adding more Sticks — easy

The app handles **up to 8 Sticks** at once. Just activate each new Stick on its charger and register it — it appears alongside your others. See [Cooking with more than one Stick](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/multi-probe-cooking) and [Adding more Sticks to your V Forge](/v-forge-set/v-forge/adding-more-sticks).

## Switching which base the app uses

If you own more than one base — say a V Prime's Smart Base **and** a V Forge's WiFi Hub — and you want the app set up for the other one, re-run the in-app setup so it picks up the base you're using now:

1. Open the app's **Menu**.
2. Go to **Help → Quick Start Tutorial**.
3. Follow it through and choose the base/charger you're using.

This resets the app's setup so it's pointed at the right base. (Full steps: [How can I reset my app settings? I want to choose a different charger](/the-meatstick-app/app/how-can-i-reset-my-app-settings-i-want-to-choose-a-different-charger.).)

> Not sure which base goes with which Set? See [Which MeatStick do I have?](/which-meatstick-do-i-have) — each set's page covers its own base.

If you ever get cook-start instructions that don't match the base in front of you, running the Quick Start Tutorial again clears it up. Still stuck? [Fill out a ticket in the app](https://tms.fyi/help).

# Why is it necessary to allow Location Services?

#### Due to popular request, our newer products no longer require Location Services permissions.

#### This permission is only required if you have one of our older products (Red Series) or are using an Android phone with version 11 and below.

#### Why Location Services are Needed

* **Bluetooth Transmission:** The app requires Location Services to actively search for Bluetooth transmissions from the Stick.

#### For iOS Users

1. **Apple Approval:**
   * Apple has tested our app and confirmed that Location Services are necessary for it to function.
   * Only the Bluetooth listening service is used, not other location services.
2. **Settings Recommendation:**
   * Set Location Services to "Always" when using the app to ensure continuous temperature signal reception, even when the app is in the background.
   * You can disable Location Services when the app is not in use.
3. **iBeacon Technology:**
   * To collect the MAC-Address for Bluetooth access, Apple requires permanent Location Services.
   * Proof of necessity was provided to Apple, allowing the app on the App Store.
4. **Turning Off Location Services:**
   * You can turn off Location Services in iPhone settings when not using the app. Upon restarting the app, it will prompt for permission again.

# How can I edit the temperature during a cook?

Our app offers flexibility in adjusting your temperature settings even while cooking. Here are how you can edit the temperature of your cook:

**Mid Cook Adjustments:**\
You can modify your targeted temperature and meat doneness settings while your cook is ongoing. The app is designed with modularity, allowing you to access and update settings at any point during the cook. Simply press your Stick’s cooking tag, and then press the edit button at the bottom of the page to start editing your cook.

\
**New Cook Setup:**\
To make changes during a cook, start by clicking the "+" icon located at the top right corner in the "Now Cooking" page. This action allows you to create a new cook for a different Stick or setting. If you have completed the cook, you can end it by accessing the menu or simply swiping to the right to reveal the "end" option.

By offering this flexibility, we aim to make your cooking experience seamless and adaptable to your preferences.

# Why can't I see any remaining time on my cook?

The remaining time display is based on a smart algorithm that requires enough data to make an accurate prediction. To ensure a more reliable estimate, the timer won’t appear until the internal temperature reaches 40°C (104°F).

Before that point, predictions can be wildly inaccurate—so we hold off until we have meaningful data. Once your cook passes that threshold, the app will begin calculating and showing the estimated remaining time, which becomes more accurate as cooking continues.

# What do the Stick's battery colors / levels represent?

In the app, your Stick's battery shows as a colored indicator so you can tell its charge at a glance. There are three levels:

| Color | What it means | What to do |
| ---------- | -------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Green** | Good charge — plenty of runway for your cook | Nothing — you're set |
| **Yellow** | Getting low | Fine to finish a short cook; top it up soon |
| **Red** | Low battery — running out | Charge before your next cook (or mid-cook if it's a long one) |

![The MeatStick Battery Level](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0080/0410/8403/files/FAQ_battery_0413-02.jpg?v=1586770081)

A fully charged Stick runs for **50+ hours**, so a green battery easily covers even an overnight smoke. If you see red, drop the Stick on its base or charger — see [Battery and charging](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/battery-and-charging).

# What do the Advanced Settings mean?

The MeatStick App's Advanced Settings each serve a specific purpose:

**Demo Mode:**\
Enabling Demo Mode ensures that cooks created by an account are exclusively editable by the owner of that account. This mode is designed for demonstrations, allowing others to follow a cook on their own devices without modifying the cook settings.

**Stick Registration:**\
Activating Stick Registration limits your app to detecting only registered Sticks while ignoring others. This feature is handy in shared environments where multiple users employ The MeatStick, such as community kitchens, parks, or BBQ competitions.

**Stick Color Update:**\
This feature is utilized to correct the color of your Stick in the event of a reset. To initiate this function, contact our Support Team to obtain a permission code. You can submit a support request from the app by navigating to Menu -> Help -> Email (upper right corner) > Email Support. Select your desired Stick color and follow the in-app instructions.

**Developer Tools:**\
This feature is made especially for the MeatStick developer team

**Factory Restore:**\
This feature is utilized to restore a Stick’s setting to its factory setting, in the event of an error on the Stick. Please consult our Support Team first before utilizing this function in the case of an error. You can submit a support request from the app by navigating to Menu -> Help -> Email (upper right corner) > Email Support.

These Advanced Settings offer additional control and customization for your MeatStick experience. We’re always adding new features in the future to better the MeatStick experience.

# What is WiFi Link and why is it important?

> **Got a V Series set?** Your Smart Base / Duo Base / WiFi Hub already bridges your cook to WiFi — you don't need WiFi Link's second-device setup. See [Monitoring your cook over WiFi](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/wifi-cloud-monitoring). WiFi Link below is for Sticks without a WiFi-capable base.

**What is WiFi Link:**\
WiFi Link is a feature in The MeatStick App (available in iOS 14 and later) that extends the range of your MeatStick by connecting it to the internet. This gives you complete flexibility and control, allowing you to monitor your cooking progress from any distance.

**How WiFi Link Works:**\
On its own, a Stick only reaches your phone over Bluetooth from a short distance — and walls or a closed grill cut that down further. WiFi Link gets around this by using a second nearby device to relay your cook up to The MeatStick Cloud. Once it's in the Cloud, you can check on your cook from anywhere on your own phone.

**Setting Up WiFi Link:**

To use WiFi Link, follow these steps:

1. Get a second smart device with internet access (WiFi or cellular).
2. Download The MeatStick App on both devices.
3. Log in to the same account on both devices.
4. Keep the second device near the Stick — within about 6 ft works for most setups. If your connection keeps dropping, move it as close to the Stick as you can (just keep it off the grill and away from hot surfaces).

Using WiFi Link makes it easier to keep track of your cooking, no matter where you are.

If you don't want to use a second device, consider getting a [WiFi Bridge](https://themeatstick.com/products/wifi-bridge?variant=40772566057148) for an easier setup.

# Setting up a cook

Once your Stick is registered, starting a cook takes about 20 seconds. Tap **Start New Cook** and pick one of two ways to go.

## Two ways to set a target

| | **Guided** | **Quick Start** |
| ------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------- |
| How it works | Tell the app what you're cooking — it fills in the target temperature for you | You type in your own target temperature |
| Best for | "I'm not sure what temp it should hit" | You already know your number |

## The Guided flow

1. **How are you cooking?** — Grill, Oven, Smoke, Sous Vide, Stove Top, Deep Fry, or Air Fryer.
2. **What are you cooking?** — Beef, Pork, Poultry, Seafood, or Lamb.
3. **How done?** — Rare, Medium-Rare, Medium, Medium-Well, or Well-Done (the options depend on the cut).
4. The app **fills in a safe target temperature** for that choice. You can fine-tune it if you like.
5. Optionally set your **cooker temperature** and a **name** for the cook, then tap **Start Cook**.

## The two temperatures you'll see

* **Internal temperature** — the meat itself. This is the number that decides when it's done.
* **Ambient temperature** — the cooking environment (your oven, grill, or smoker). On a V Prime Stick this comes from the Stick's built-in sensor; on a V Forge it comes from the Wired Ambient Probe at the grate.

## You can change anything mid-cook

Target temp, alerts, and the cook's name are all editable while you're cooking — as long as your Stick is connected (over Bluetooth or WiFi). They lock only when you're viewing remotely over the cloud.

Next: [Insert the Stick the right way](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/inserting-the-stick) · set your [alerts and resting](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/alerts-and-resting) · or [monitor over WiFi](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/wifi-cloud-monitoring).

# How to insert the Stick into your meat

Getting the Stick in the right spot is what makes your readings accurate. It takes a few seconds.

## Where to insert

* **Aim for the thickest part of the cut** — that's the spot that finishes last, so it's the temperature that matters.
* **Avoid fat pockets and bone.** Both read differently from the meat and can throw your numbers off. Go through the meat itself.

## How deep

* **Push the stainless steel shaft mostly or fully into the meat.** The Stick has multiple sensors along the shaft, and they need to be surrounded by meat to find the true coldest point.
* On a **V Series** Stick, insert **at least to the Minimum Insertion Line** marked on the shaft — but deeper is better. The line is the minimum; it isn't the target.
* If you have a **V Prime Stick**, inserting to the line keeps the internal sensors buried in the meat while the ambient sensor near the handle stays in the air — exactly where you want each one.

## Thin cuts

For something thin — a steak, chicken breast, or burger — insert **from the side, at a shallow angle**, so the shaft runs lengthwise through the meat and the sensors stay covered. Don't poke straight down through a thin cut; the sensors will end up in open air.

# Cooking with more than one Stick

Running a brisket and ribs at once? Mains and sides in the oven? You can monitor several Sticks on a single cook, all in the MeatStick App.

## How many at once

The MeatStick App monitors **up to 8 Sticks** at the same time. Activate each Stick one at a time on its charger, and they'll all appear in the app, each managed independently.

The number a single base or hub relays depends on the hardware:

* **V Duo Smart Base** holds and charges 2 Sticks and shows both on its LCD.
* **V WiFi Hub** (Forge) relays up to 8 Sticks — the Forge bundles ship with up to 4, but a single Hub handles the full 8.

## Telling your Sticks apart — color rings

When more than one Stick is in the cook, the **colored silicone ID rings** keep them straight. Every V Core Set ships with three (yellow, blue, red).

1. Slip a ring onto each Stick's handle.
2. During pairing in the app, assign that Stick the matching color.
3. The reading you see in the app now matches the ring on the Stick — no more guessing which one is in the brisket and which is in the ribs.

## Adding more Sticks to your setup

The simplest way to add a monitoring point is a [V Core Set](/v-core-set/v-core/set-up) — a complete Stick plus a stackable charger. It pairs to the same MeatStick App account and works alongside the Sticks you already have. You never re-buy the smart base or hub.

For the full expansion story — how the chargers stack, how many probes per hub — see [Adding more Sticks to your V Forge](/v-forge-set/v-forge/adding-more-sticks).

## One ambient reading is enough

If your Sticks include an ambient sensor (the V Prime Stick) plus non-ambient Sticks (the V Core Stick), you only need **one** ambient reading per cook — the cooking environment is the same for every protein in the same smoker or oven. That's exactly why the [V Duo Set](/v-duo-set/v-duo/whats-in-the-box) pairs one ambient-equipped Stick with one that focuses on internal temperature.

# Alerts and resting your meat

The app watches two things for you — the meat and the cooking environment — and pings you at the right moments. Here's what each alert means and how to use the early warning to nail your rest.

## The two meat alerts

* **Early Warning** — fires a little *before* your target. This is your cue to **pull the meat and let it rest**. Meat keeps cooking from its own retained heat after it comes off (carryover), so pulling a few degrees early lands it right after the rest.
* **Target** — fires when the meat hits your number. If you didn't pull it at the early warning, it's ready now.

You can turn the early warning off if you'd rather only be alerted at the target.

> **Rule of thumb:** the bigger the cut, the more carryover. A brisket or roast climbs several degrees while resting; a thin steak barely moves. Set your early warning lower for big cuts.

## The two cooker alerts (ambient)

Set these and the app warns you if your cooking environment drifts:

* **Too low** — your fire's fading (charcoal burning down, pellets out).
* **Too high** — a heat spike or flare-up.

Both are optional and you set the thresholds. (These are different from the built-in overheat protection that guards the Stick itself.)

## How the alerts reach you

Choose how you're notified — **ringtone, vibration, both, or silent** — and how long each alert lasts. See [How can I change the sounds for my alert settings](/the-meatstick-app/app/how-can-i-change-the-sounds-for-my-alert-settings).

> **Heads up:** if your phone is in silent mode, audible alerts won't sound — the app will warn you when that's the case.

# Monitoring your cook over WiFi

WiFi is what lets you check a cook from the grocery store, the office, or bed during an overnight smoke — not just from the backyard. Here's how it works on the V Series.

## Where the WiFi lives

WiFi is built into the **base or hub**, not the Stick. The Stick talks to the base over Bluetooth; the base connects to your home WiFi and streams the cook to the MeatStick Cloud. From there it reaches your phone anywhere with internet.

That means cloud monitoring is available on the sets with a WiFi-capable base:

* **V Prime Set** — V Smart Base
* **V Duo Set** — V Duo Smart Base
* **V Forge Set** — V WiFi Hub

The **V Core Set** is Bluetooth-only (phone-direct), so it doesn't do cloud monitoring on its own. Add it to a set with a WiFi base, or step up to one of the above.

## Setting it up

1. In the MeatStick App, tap **Add device** and put your base in pairing mode.
2. Pick your WiFi network and enter the password.
3. The base joins WiFi and starts sending cook data to the cloud.

> **2.4 GHz only.** The base connects to **2.4 GHz** networks, not 5 GHz. Most home routers broadcast both on the same name — if pairing won't find your network, put your phone on the 2.4 GHz band during setup. Once paired, the base remembers the network; you won't re-pair every cook.

No dongles, no separate gateway, and no monthly subscription — cloud monitoring is included.

For more on the cloud and the app side, see [What is The MeatStick Cloud](/the-meatstick-app/app/what-is-the-meatstick-cloud-and-how-to-use-it) and [What is WiFi Link](/the-meatstick-app/app/what-is-wifi-link-and-why-is-it-important).

## If your WiFi drops mid-cook

You don't lose the cook. The base keeps streaming temperature to your phone over Bluetooth whenever the phone is in range. You only lose the *remote* window until WiFi comes back. To keep the Bluetooth link solid, keep the base within about 6 feet of the Stick — see [Range and connection drops](/troubleshooting/troubleshooting/range-and-connection-drops).

# Using the same Stick for consecutive cooks

Cooking multiple meat dishes consecutively using the same stick is a breeze. No need to return the stick to the charger to initiate a new cooking session. The app handles this seamlessly by automatically generating a new cook entry when it detects the completion of one cook and the start of another.

Here's how it works:

**Effortless Transition:**\
Upon finishing one cook (when the desired temperature is reached), the app smoothly ushers in a new cook entry as you proceed to the next culinary endeavor.

**Timing Precision:**\
Ensure that the gap between two consecutive cooks remains within 15 minutes. This ensures a seamless transition. If the interval exceeds 15 minutes, it's recommended to set up a fresh cook using the stick to initiate the new cooking process.

**Adjusting Cook Settings:**\
Should you wish to modify cook settings for the next session, the app enables easy editing of cook details.

# Battery and charging

Every MeatStick V Series Stick charges the same way — drop it onto its base or charger and it tops up automatically. The details below apply to **any** V Series Stick (V Prime or V Core). How each *base or charger* behaves is a little different, so there's a quick guide to yours at the bottom.

## Charging your Stick

* **Drop it on to charge.** Place the Stick onto your base or charger. The contacts seat magnetically and charging starts on its own. Leave it about an hour before first use.
* **Quick charge in a pinch:**
  * 5 minutes → about 4 hours of cooking
  * 10 minutes → about 9 hours of cooking
* **Full battery lasts 50+ hours** — long enough for the longest overnight smoke.
* **Don't charge a wet Stick.** Dry it off first so the contacts make a clean connection.
* **Clean before charging.** Wipe the metal cap and steel shaft so they look like bare steel, not soot — residue can block charging.

> **Brand-new Stick looks dead? That's normal.** Sticks ship from the factory in a low-voltage protection state. If you lift a brand-new Stick off the charger before its first charge, it can look like nothing's happening. Give it about 10 seconds on a powered charger and the protection state clears — it'll wake up when you take it off.

## Will my older Stick charge on a V Series base?

No. A V Series base or charger is built for the V Series Stick and has different dimensions. A MeatStick 4, Chef, or older Stick won't seat correctly. Always charge each Stick on the base or charger made for it.

## Your base or charger works a little differently

Charging times and battery life above are the same for every V Series Stick. But how you power your base, what its lights mean, and how long *it* lasts depend on which one you have. Open yours:

* [V Smart Base](/v-prime-set/v-prime/smart-base) — the base in the V Prime Set
* [V Duo Smart Base](/v-duo-set/v-duo/duo-base) — the two-Stick base with the LCD screen
* [V Charge Stack](/v-core-set/v-core/charge-stack) — the stackable charger in the V Core Set
* [V WiFi Hub](/v-forge-set/v-forge/wifi-hub) — the hub in the V Forge Set

Still stuck? If your Stick won't charge at all, see [My Stick won't charge](/troubleshooting/troubleshooting/stick-wont-charge).

# How do I know if the Stick is charging / charged?

Understanding whether your stick is charging or fully charged is straightforward. Here's how:

**LED Charger Indicator:**\
When you place your stick on the charger and press the button, the indicator light will turn on. This light remains illuminated until the stick is fully charged. Its activation signifies that the charger's battery is operational and the stick is being charged.

**Checking the Stick's Battery Status:**\
To confirm the charging process, refer to your app. A stick icon with a battery and lightning bolt will be displayed, indicating ongoing charging.

Simply open the app when you're charging the Stick. When you see your Stick in the app, simply observe the battery icon on the app to see the battery level of the Stick. (Lightning bolt symbol indicates that the Stick is charging)

# Do I need to set up the WiFi each time?

Once you've set up the WiFi of your Smart Base, there's no need to repeatedly configure it every time you use it. The Base conveniently retains the information of the last connected WiFi network.

If the Base can't connect to a WiFi network during startup, the app will prompt you to connect it to a different network. When you set up the Base on a new network, the old WiFi settings will be replaced.

This streamlined process ensures that your Smart Base remains ready for seamless connectivity, enhancing your cooking experience.

# How should I clean my Stick?

Ensure your Stick remains free from any residue after cooking. Follow these steps for effective cleaning:

1. Use a sponge, soap, and warm running water for a thorough clean. A good scrubbing is usually sufficient to restore its cleanliness.
2. If residue persists on the Stick's round metal cap, you can employ iron wool. However, avoid scrubbing the ceramic parts with the wool.

We recommend that you clean the Stick to the most adequate standard, see below:

**Important !!:**\
Do not soak your Stick in water! This helps maintain its functionality and longevity.

<figure><img src="https://480337956-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mg4Jg9fo_8jMW0As7z7%2Fuploads%2F159AoQ5uJDYZacCVj1PD%2F4b363366-3d56-4a49-9c8a-9ffb31b8508b-IMG_0407.webp?alt=media&#x26;token=363ac582-878c-4129-985f-4a87c94e06ca" alt="" width="375"><figcaption><p>Clean Stick in running water and DO NOT soak.</p></figcaption></figure>

**Additional Note:**\
Ensure the metal springs on the charger are spotless. They serve as crucial contact points between the Stick and the charger.

Never place a wet Stick on the Charger. Charging + Water will damage the charging prongs and cause it to stop charging over time.

# How should I store my Stick?

Properly storing your Stick ensures its longevity and optimal performance. Follow these guidelines:

**Keep Your Stick on the Charger:**\
Always leave your Stick on the charger when not in use. This keeps the battery charged and ready to go. Before placing it on the charger, make sure both [the Stick and charger are clean](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/cleaning-your-stick). If the charger's batteries run out, it won't charge the Stick, so check them regularly.

**Charge Sticks Periodically:**\
Even when not in use, charge your Stick every 3 months, or at least every 6 months. This prevents the battery from draining completely and keeps your Stick ready for your next cook.

Do Not Place a Wet Stick on the charger. This will damage the charger and over time will prevent your charger from charging the Stick.

By adhering to these storage recommendations, you'll ensure that your Stick is always powered up and ready to assist you in your culinary adventures.

# How accurate are the sensors?

Every MeatStick V Series Stick is **calibrated to NIST standards** with a 4-point factory calibration at 32°F, 95°F, 158°F, and 185°F (0°C, 35°C, 70°C, 85°C). Internal sensor accuracy is **±0.4°F (±0.2°C)** across the cooking range.

Each Stick carries **5 internal temperature sensors** distributed along the length of the probe so you can monitor both the surface and the core of your meat at the same time. V Prime Sticks add a sixth sensor for ambient (oven/pit) temperature; V Core Sticks pair with the wired ambient probe in the V Forge Set for grate-level ambient measurement.

**Build & durability**

* **1200°F ceramic handle** — survives reverse sears, sear-then-rest workflows, and pizza-oven conditions.
* **IP69K-class water resistance** — engineered to IP69K conditions and validated by internal thermal-shock testing (heat cycle → ice-water plunge). Outlasts probes from brands that publish IP69K specs.
* **50+ hour battery life** — long enough for overnight briskets, pork shoulders, and competition cooks.

# Troubleshooting

Something not behaving? Find your symptom below. These pages cover the current V Series — if you have an older MeatStick, each page links you to legacy help.

Still stuck? [Fill out a ticket in the app](https://tms.fyi/help) and our Support Team will help.

# My Stick won't connect or show temperature

Most connection problems come down to one of three things: Bluetooth, charge level, or dirty contacts. Work through these in order.

## My Stick doesn't show up in the app

1. **Restart your phone.** This clears most Bluetooth hiccups.
2. **Check the charge.** A nearly-dead Stick won't connect. Put it back on its base or charger for at least an hour, then try again.
3. **Clean the contacts.** Wipe the round metal cap and the stainless steel shaft until they look like bare steel, not black. Soot and grease block both charging and pairing.

If your Stick still doesn't appear, [fill out a ticket in the app](https://tms.fyi/help) and our Support Team will help.

## My Stick shows up but there's no temperature

If the Stick is visible in the app but isn't reading a temperature:

1. **Take the Stick off the charger.** A Stick only sends temperature once it's lifted off the base or charger — on the charger it stays quiet. Look at the **Now Cooking** page after removing it.
2. **Restart your phone and update the app** to the latest version.

> Seeing internal temperature but **no ambient** temperature? That's usually expected before the cook gets going — see [Why don't I see ambient temperature before cooking starts](/troubleshooting/troubleshooting/why-no-ambient-before-cooking).

If you've done all this and still see no temperature, reach out — [fill out a ticket in the app](https://tms.fyi/help).

# My Stick won't charge

Charging problems almost always come down to dirty contacts, a wet Stick, or an unpowered base. Run through these in order.

1. **Clean the contacts.** Wipe the round metal cap and the steel shaft until they look like bare steel, not soot. Residue is the #1 cause of failed charging.
2. **Make sure the Stick is dry.** Never put a wet Stick on the charger — dry it off so the contacts connect.
3. **Confirm the base or charger has power.** Check the USB-C cable is seated and the outlet is live. Your base or charger should show a charging light — see your device's page for what its LED means: [V Smart Base](/v-prime-set/v-prime/smart-base) · [V Duo Smart Base](/v-duo-set/v-duo/duo-base) · [V Charge Stack](/v-core-set/v-core/charge-stack) · [V WiFi Hub](/v-forge-set/v-forge/wifi-hub).
4. **Seat the Stick correctly.** The contacts seat magnetically — let it settle into position rather than forcing it.
5. **Give it a full hour.** A deeply drained Stick can take time before it shows progress in the app.

> **Brand-new Stick that seems dead?** That's expected. New Sticks ship in a low-voltage protection state. Leave it on a *powered* charger for about 10 seconds and the protection state clears — then it wakes when you lift it off.

If it still won't charge after cleaning, drying, and a full hour on a confirmed-powered charger, [fill out a ticket in the app](https://tms.fyi/help) and our Support Team will help.

# Why are my temperatures off? Testing accuracy

Before assuming your Stick is inaccurate, it helps to know that meat and cooking environments are uneven by nature — so a reading that looks "off" is often correct.

## Internal temperature

Different parts of the same cut sit at different temperatures while cooking. A large roast or turkey can vary by 15–25 °F across the meat, and even a steak or chicken breast can differ by several degrees depending on how the Stick is inserted.

For the most accurate reading, insert the Stick into the **thickest part** of the meat from the side, avoiding bone and cartilage.

## Ambient temperature

The ambient reading measures the air right around the meat, which is usually cooler than what your grill or oven dial shows. Placement matters too — directly above the meat reads lower than out to the side over the heat source. The Stick shows the *actual* temperature where your food is cooking, which is what you want.

Most grills, ovens, and smokers also have cold spots that can run 50–75 °F below the set temperature.

## Testing accuracy: the ice-water bath

The simplest way to check any thermometer is a properly made ice bath. Done carefully it holds 32 °F (±3 °F); done carelessly it can read several degrees high — a cup of ice water alone can sit 24 °F too warm.

> **Signal tip:** while testing, your hand or the water can block the Stick's signal, so a temperature change may not show right away and the reading can look stuck. Keep your phone right next to the Stick — or set a Smart Base, WiFi Hub, Xtender, or WiFi Bridge beside it, since those pick up the signal better than a phone. If it gets close but not quite to temperature, the signal was likely lost: lift the Stick out for a few seconds (you'll see the temp jump), then try again. This only happens during the test — normal cooking doesn't block the antenna this way.

1. **Fill with ice.** Pack a vessel to the top with ice — crushed is best, but cubed works fine.
2. **Add water.** Slowly fill the gaps to about ½" below the top of the ice. Let it settle a minute or two. If the ice floats up off the bottom, pour off some water and add more ice (water below the ice won't be at 32 °F).
3. **Insert the Stick.** Create a cook in the app, then stir the Stick through the vertical center of the slurry — don't let it rest against an ice cube, the side, or the bottom of the vessel.
4. **Read it.** Your Stick should show 32 °F (±3 °F). A reading around 35–36 °F usually means the ice bath wasn't quite right.

> **Skip the boiling-water test.** It puts excess strain on the Stick's battery and can damage the Stick if its maximum temperature is exceeded.

# The app says "no signal" mid-cook

Losing the reading partway through a cook is almost always a range issue on the **Bluetooth** hop between your Stick and its receiver (your phone or base/hub). The cook itself keeps going — let's get the signal back.

## First, move the receiver closer

**Keep the receiver within about 6 feet of the Stick — closer is better.** When the Stick is sealed inside a smoker, oven, or grill, the metal and the seal weaken Bluetooth. Set your base or hub right on the cooker (use its magnetic back) rather than next to you, then walk away once it reconnects.

Water and metal make it worse — a sous vide bath, a metal pot, or foil-wrapped meat all absorb the signal. For those, get the receiver as close as the setup allows.

Full detail: [Range and connection drops](/troubleshooting/troubleshooting/range-and-connection-drops).

## If you have a base or hub (Prime, Duo, Forge)

* Make sure the **base** is the thing near the Stick — it relays over Bluetooth and pushes the cook to WiFi.
* If your home **WiFi** dropped, you only lose the *remote* view. The base keeps streaming to your phone over Bluetooth whenever the phone is in range, and remote monitoring returns when WiFi does.

## If you're phone-direct (V Core)

There's no base relaying the signal, so your **phone** has to stay near the cooker (within \~6 ft). To roam farther, add a WiFi-capable set ([V Prime](/v-prime-set/v-prime/whats-in-the-box), [V Duo](/v-duo-set/v-duo/whats-in-the-box), or [V Forge](/v-forge-set/v-forge)).

## Did I lose my cook data?

No. A dropout pauses live updates; it doesn't end the cook or erase what's logged. When the signal returns, the reading picks back up. If the Stick never reconnects even up close, see [My Stick won't connect](/troubleshooting/troubleshooting/stick-wont-connect).

# My base or hub isn't working

<figure><img src="https://480337956-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mg4Jg9fo_8jMW0As7z7%2Fuploads%2FJJy6ZYMVOt4dqS8jDaqI%2FPattern_MSV%20Charger%20Side%20%5BReset%20Port_JUL24%5D%402x.png?alt=media&#x26;token=46cf3a57-64a2-4bb7-b60d-268db3ada86f" alt=""><figcaption><p>Use a SIM ejector or similar to push the tiny button on the side hole of the Base</p></figcaption></figure>

If your Smart Base, Duo Base, or WiFi Hub freezes up or stops responding, a power reset usually clears it. This just restarts the device (like rebooting a computer) — it does **not** erase your WiFi or any other settings.

1. **Find the reset button.** Look for the tiny hole on the side of the base and press the button inside it with a SIM-ejector tool or a paperclip.
2. **Watch the LED.** It cycles through its colors to confirm the reset worked.

> The **V Duo Base** and **V WiFi Hub** reset exactly the same way.

> **V Duo Base — first-batch note:** on some early Duo Base units, pressing reset can leave it not booting back up. If that happens, plug the Duo Base into USB power and press the reset button again — it'll start up normally.

# Range and connection drops

If your reading keeps dropping out or the Stick disconnects mid-cook, it's almost always a Bluetooth-range issue. Here's how the signal actually works and how to keep it solid.

## How the signal travels

Your Stick sends its data over **Bluetooth** to the nearest receiver — your phone, or a Smart Base / WiFi Hub / Xtender™. That first Bluetooth hop is the fragile one. From there, a base or hub can relay the cook over WiFi to anywhere in the world, but it can only relay a signal it's actually receiving.

The Bluetooth antenna sits in the Stick's ceramic handle. A clear line of sight between the Stick and the receiver dramatically improves range — and most cooking setups don't give you one.

## The one rule that fixes most drops

**Keep the receiver within about 6 feet of your Stick — closer is better.**

The big range numbers on the box are measured in open air with nothing in the way. Real cooking is the opposite. What weakens the signal, worst first:

| Makes it worse | Why |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| Sealed smoker walls | Thick metal + a tight seal block the signal |
| Closed oven cavity | Metal box around the Stick |
| Sous vide bath | Water absorbs the 2.4 GHz signal |
| Metal pot (sous vide / deep fry) | Metal vessel plus liquid |
| Foil-wrapped meat | Even foil attenuates the signal |

Thicker walls, tighter seals, more liquid, more metal = more signal loss. For any of these, get the receiver as close to the Stick as the setup allows.

## How a base or hub extends your range

If your Stick comes with a Smart Base or WiFi Hub, it does two jobs:

* **Xtender™ (Bluetooth):** the base relays the Stick's signal, pushing usable range much farther than phone-direct.
* **WiFi bridge:** the base connects to your home WiFi and streams the cook to the cloud — so once it has the Stick's signal, you can monitor from the store, the office, or bed.

The trick is the same: place the **base** close to the Stick (within \~6 ft), not close to you. Set it on the smoker's side panel with the magnetic back, or right next to a sous vide bath. Once it has the signal, walk away.

Device-specific placement tips:

* [V Smart Base placement](/v-prime-set/v-prime/smart-base) (antenna under the logo)
* [V WiFi Hub placement](/v-forge-set/v-forge/wifi-hub)

## If you're running phone-direct (V Core, no base)

A V Core Set talks straight to your phone with no base to extend it. There's no WiFi fallback, so the phone has to stay near the cooker — within about 6 feet. To monitor from another room or leave the house, step up to a set with a built-in WiFi receiver ([V Prime](/v-prime-set/v-prime/whats-in-the-box), [V Duo](/v-duo-set/v-duo/whats-in-the-box), or [V Forge](/v-forge-set/v-forge)).

# Why don't I see ambient temperature before cooking?

This is normal.

Your Stick's ambient sensor only starts showing a reading once it's in a stable cooking environment. Before the cook gets going, the temperature along the Stick is still settling — too even, or fluctuating — so the app holds off rather than show an unreliable number.

Once your cook is underway and the Stick detects steady heat, the ambient temperature appears on its own.

# Which V Series set is right for me?

All four V Series sets share the same app, the same accuracy, and the same ecosystem — start with one and add more whenever you want. The difference is **how you cook** and **how you want to monitor**.

## Quick answer

| If you mostly… | Get the… | Why |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Want the simplest way into V Series, or are adding a Stick to a setup you own | **V Core Set** | One Stick + stackable charger. Pairs straight to your phone over Bluetooth. The building block for going multi-Stick. |
| Grill, sear, roast, sous vide — everyday cooking | **V Prime Set** | One Stick reads meat *and* cook-environment temperature. Adds WiFi so you can step away. The all-rounder. |
| Cook two things at once and want temps without your phone | **V Duo Set** | Two Sticks + a base with an LCD screen. Great for multi-protein cooks and gifting. |
| Smoke low-and-slow, run a kamado or pellet grill, do long overnight cooks | **V Forge Set** | A separate Wired Ambient Probe reads pit temperature right at the grate — accurate where it matters most. |

## A little more detail

* **V Core Set** — the entry point and the expansion block. No WiFi, no smart base; your phone is the receiver, so keep it near the cooker. Add Core Sets anytime to run more Sticks on one app. → [What's in the box](/v-core-set/v-core/whats-in-the-box)
* **V Prime Set** — the hero for most cooks. The V Prime Stick has a built-in ambient sensor, so a single Stick covers both meat and cook environment. The Smart Base adds range and WiFi cloud monitoring. → [What's in the box](/v-prime-set/v-prime/whats-in-the-box)
* **V Duo Set** — two Sticks plus the only V Series base with an LCD screen, so you can read temps at a glance without your phone. → [What's in the box](/v-duo-set/v-duo/whats-in-the-box)
* **V Forge Set** — built for the long cooks. Instead of reading ambient on the Stick (where cold meat skews it), the Forge clips a Wired Ambient Probe at grate level for true pit temperature, plus a WiFi Hub for cloud monitoring. → [The V Forge family](/v-forge-set/v-forge)

## Still deciding between two?

The most common cross-shop is Prime vs Forge — see [V Forge Set vs. V Prime Set](/buying-help-and-warranty/buying-and-warranty/v-forge-vs-v-prime) for a head-to-head.

Whatever you start with, every V Series Stick and base works together on the same app. You can always [add more Sticks](/v-forge-set/v-forge/adding-more-sticks) later.

# V Forge Set vs. V Prime Set

Both sets are V Series. Both include a 5-sensor Stick. Both include WiFi cloud monitoring. The difference is **how they measure ambient (cook environment) temperature** and which kind of cook you do most.

## The short version

* **V Prime Set:** one-piece simplicity — meat temperature *and* ambient temperature both come from a single Stick. Best for everyday grilling, oven cooking, sous vide, and any cook where pit-temperature accuracy isn't the top concern.
* **V Forge Set:** two pieces — the Stick measures meat temperature, a separate Wired Ambient Probe measures pit temperature at grate level. Best for long smoker cooks (8+ hours), kamados, and anyone who's been burned by inaccurate pit readings on a wireless probe.

## Side-by-side

| | V Prime Set | V Forge Set |
| ------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| Stick | V Prime Stick (5 internal + 1 built-in ambient sensor) | V Core Stick (5 internal sensors, no built-in ambient) |
| Ambient temperature measured at | The Stick itself (built-in sensor) | The grate (separate Wired Ambient Probe on a 1 m cable) |
| Pieces in the box | 2 (Stick + Smart Base) | 3 (Stick + WiFi Hub + Wired Ambient Probe) |
| WiFi cloud monitoring | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes |
| Setup pieces to manage | Fewer | One more piece to clip at the grate |
| Best for | Weeknight grilling, sears, oven roasts, sous vide | Long smoker cooks, kamado, low-and-slow BBQ |

## Why the V Forge separates the two measurements

When the ambient sensor sits on the same Stick that's buried in cold meat, the meat acts as a heat sink and pulls the ambient reading well below what's actually happening in the pit. For a quick weeknight cook that doesn't matter much. For a 12-hour brisket where you're trying to hold 225°F overnight, a falsely-low ambient reading can cost you the cook.

The V Forge separates the two so each measurement is accurate, regardless of what's happening to the other one. The trade-off is one more piece to set up.

## A simple rule

* You mostly grill, sear, sous vide, and roast → **V Prime Set**
* You mostly smoke, low-and-slow, kamado, or pellet-grill long cooks → **V Forge Set**
* You do both → **V Forge** is the more capable setup; you can use it for everyday cooks too without clipping the ambient probe.

## What about V Duo or V Core?

* **V Duo Set** — two Sticks + an on-base LCD screen. For multi-protein cooks where you want phone-optional monitoring.
* **V Core Set** — single Stick, no WiFi, lowest entry price. The cheapest way into the V Series ecosystem.

# Warranty and returns

## Warranty coverage

Your MeatStick product is covered by a **1-year limited warranty** from the date of purchase. It covers manufacturing defects and component failures under normal use.

The warranty does not cover:

* Damage from misuse, accidental drops, or use beyond the product's rated operating range
* Damage from unauthorized modifications or repairs
* Normal cosmetic wear (handle scratches, surface discoloration from regular cooking heat)
* Loss or theft
* Products bought through closeout, clearance, liquidation, overstock, or daily-deal channels, or from any unauthorized reseller. Warranty applies to products bought new from themeatstick.com or an authorized MeatStick retailer or dealer (including Amazon when sold by The MeatStick); if you're unsure whether your product is covered, contact support with your proof of purchase.

For the complete warranty terms — including coverage period, regional scope, and limitations — see our full [Warranty Policy](https://themeatstick.com/pages/warranty).

## Returns

If you bought directly from **themeatstick.com**, here's how returns work:

* **30-day return window.** Unused products can be returned within 30 days of purchase for a refund, minus shipping charges.
* **Like-new condition.** All boxes, packaging, accessories, and manuals must come back in new, resellable condition. Missing or damaged items may be deducted from the refund.
* **Request an RMA first.** Every return needs an RMA number before you ship it back — only our Support Team can issue one. Packages sent back without an RMA can't be guaranteed correct processing.
* **Return shipping** is the customer's responsibility. We suggest insuring the package for its full value.
* **Ship within 2 weeks** of getting your RMA number, or the return may be subject to a 20% restocking fee.
* **Refund timing:** once we receive and approve your return, the original card is refunded within 5–10 business days.
* Used or damaged equipment can't be returned for a refund.
* **Gift cards** are non-returnable.

> **Bought from Amazon or another retailer?** Returns go through that store under their return policy. Warranty support, we handle directly — just reach out below.

| **Color ID rings** | Yellow / blue / red silicone rings for telling Sticks apart. |

## How to get a replacement

The fastest way is to [**fill out a ticket in the app**](https://tms.fyi/help). Tell us:

1. Which part you need
2. Which set you have (V Forge Set, V Prime Set, V Duo Set, V Core Set, or a legacy MeatStick)
3. Your order number, if you have it

We'll confirm what's available and the current pricing.

## Expanding vs. replacing

If you're not replacing a broken part but **adding** monitoring points, the [V Core Set](/v-core-set/v-core/set-up) is the way to grow — a complete Stick plus a stackable charger. See [Adding more Sticks](/v-forge-set/v-forge/adding-more-sticks).

# How do I charge my Stick?

There are a few different ways you can charge your Stick:

**The MeatStick 4 and Chef:**

<figure><img src="https://480337956-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mg4Jg9fo_8jMW0As7z7%2Fuploads%2FCqPPfnYoT2HtHGnAIPZN%2FMeatStick%204X%20Charger%202023%20(300ppi).png?alt=media&#x26;token=f44d9e4f-34c8-4cad-9428-05d8c1c0aa3a" alt="" width="375"><figcaption><p>The MeatStick 4X Charger</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://480337956-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mg4Jg9fo_8jMW0As7z7%2Fuploads%2FHoRG0ktAvAZv5PqO8BrK%2FMeatStick%20Chef%20X%20Charger%202023%20(300ppi).png?alt=media&#x26;token=3d790d36-f06f-4c39-8ab3-397ec5006a11" alt="" width="375"><figcaption><p>The MeatStick Chef X Charger</p></figcaption></figure>

**Auto Slow Charging:**

* The Stick charges slowly when placed on the charger. After cooking, placing it on the charger turns it off and it fully charges overnight.
* To check the battery, press the charger button to activate the Stick. The app will display the battery status and enable fast charging.

**Fast Charging:**

* Place the Stick on the charger and press the button to activate fast charging. The indicator light will briefly turn on.
* Check the app for a battery icon with a lightning bolt to confirm fast charging.
* The charger's LED turns off when the Stick is fully charged. Charging times may vary based on battery conditions.

Make sure to [clean your Stick](/cooking-and-care/cooking-and-care/cleaning-your-stick) before charging to ensure it is charged properly.

# How long does it need to be charged?

If a Stick's battery is at empty, it will take around 2 hours to fully charge through quick charging depending on the Stick.

The charger has LED indicator when quick charging, you can wait for the LED to turn off as that will indicate the Stick is fully charged.

# How do I turn off my Stick?

The MeatStick 4 and MeatStick Chef turn off automatically for your convenience:

* **Inactivity**: Automatically turn off after 30 minutes of inactivity or minimal temperature changes.
* **Charging**: Automatically turn off when placed on their corresponding chargers.

This automation allows you to focus on cooking without manually turning off your MeatStick.

# Why won't my Stick connect?

If you're having trouble connecting your Stick to the app, it might be due to the following reasons:

1. **Incorrect Placement on Charger:**
   * Ensure the round metal cap of the Stick touches the metal spring of the charger.

2. **Bluetooth Issues:**
   * Restart your phone to resolve potential Bluetooth problems.
3. **Insufficient Charging:**
   * Make sure the Stick is sufficiently charged and the contact points are clean. The round metal cap and stainless steel parts should appear as steel, not black.
   * Place the Stick back on the charger, press the button to initiate charging, and let it charge until the LED turns off.

If the issue persists and your Stick doesn't appear in the app, please create a ticket at <https://tms.fyi/help>.

# How does the 2018 Stick work?

The 2018 Stick offers a simple cooking experience with these steps:

1. **App Download and Account Creation:** Download the app and create your account to get started.\
   [![](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0080/0410/8403/files/app-store.png?6916)](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-meatstick/id1353339890)[![](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0080/0410/8403/files/google-play.png?6916)](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themeatstick.app\&hl=en)<br>
2. **Charging the Stick:** Plug the micro USB-powered charger into a power source. Place the Stick on the charger and ensure it charges for a minimum of 4 hours before its initial use.
3. **Activating the Stick:** Press the button on the charger to activate the Stick. In the app, select the Stick and choose your desired cook.
4. **Inserting Stick into Meat:** Remove the Stick from the charger and insert it fully into the meat, up to the ceramic handle. Position the notch in the thickest part of the meat, avoiding fat and bones.<br>
5. **Real-time Data Monitoring:** Receive real-time data on your smartphone. The app will notify you when your meat is ready. Note that the Stick will be hot after cooking, so handle it with care when removing
6. **Post-Cook Care:** After enjoying your cooked meat, allow the Stick to cool down. Clean it thoroughly to maintain its pristine appearance.<br>

These steps make the 2018 Stick a convenient and reliable tool for achieving your desired cooking results.
