V Forge Set vs. V Prime Set

Both sets are V Series. Both include a 5-sensor Stick. Both include WiFi cloud monitoring. The difference is how they measure ambient (cook environment) temperature and which kind of cook you do most.

The short version

  • V Prime Set: one-piece simplicity — meat temperature and ambient temperature both come from a single Stick. Best for everyday grilling, oven cooking, sous vide, and any cook where pit-temperature accuracy isn't the top concern.

  • V Forge Set: two pieces — the Stick measures meat temperature, a separate Wired Ambient Probe measures pit temperature at grate level. Best for long smoker cooks (8+ hours), kamados, and anyone who's been burned by inaccurate pit readings on a wireless probe.

Why the V Forge separates the two measurements

When the ambient sensor sits on the same Stick that's buried in cold meat, the meat acts as a heat sink and pulls the ambient reading well below what's actually happening in the pit. For a quick weeknight cook that doesn't matter much. For a 12-hour brisket where you're trying to hold 225°F overnight, a falsely-low ambient reading can cost you the cook.

The V Forge separates the two so each measurement is accurate, regardless of what's happening to the other one. The trade-off is one more piece to set up.

A simple rule

  • You mostly grill, sear, sous vide, and roast → V Prime Set

  • You mostly smoke, low-and-slow, kamado, or pellet-grill long cooks → V Forge Set

  • You do both → V Forge is the more capable setup; you can use it for everyday cooks too without clipping the ambient probe.

What about V Duo or V Core?

  • V Duo Set — two Sticks + an on-base LCD screen. For multi-protein cooks where you want phone-optional monitoring.

  • V Core Set — single Stick, no WiFi, lowest entry price. The cheapest way into the V Series ecosystem.
